Charlie’s Angels is a show that has received worldwide acclaim since it was first aired in 1976. It gained such success in its 5 years on air that there have been numerous films and remakes right up to the present day. However, the most famous and well known of the actors was Jaclyn Smith who played Kelly Garrett and was the only member of the trio who was ever present throughout the entire series.
Born on October 26th 1947 in Houston she was schooled at the local school and gained a place at Trinity University. Having completed her degree she then moved to New York. She wasn’t initially hoping to forge a career in acting; instead she wanted to pursue a ballet dancing career but soon decided that this wasn’t for her. After thoughts of modeling were also dismissed she broke into acting with a few adverts in 1971; mainly with shampoo companies. After 5 years of advertising products she decided that she was in need of a change and broke onto the scene in the new show called Charlie’s Angels. The show became a hit almost immediately and Smith soon found herself a household name. As the only member to stay on for all the series’, her face became synonymous with the Angels. After the show ended in 1981 she carried on acting in numerous Hollywood films including Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy for which she was nominated for a Globe award. Her work was formally recognized in 1989 when she received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.
